So summer had finally arrived with clocks moved forward it was off to one of the easiest grounds to find in the league, Coalpit Heath, or so we thought… When we arrived we discovered the under 10s don’t play at the ground by the main road and were directed two miles away to “an oasis in the country” well actually it was more “cow field in a village”.
Well onto the game and despite the conditions we got off to a flier a run from Jack down the wing and the ball was neatly deflected into the net by one of the Coalpit Heath defenders. The lead was short-lived however with an equaliser coming shortly afterwards and half time arrived with the scores level. In the second half the team ran out of a bit of steam and conceded a couple more and the match finished 1 - 3.
However an excellent performance capped by a fine display by man of match Ashley “They shall not pass” Poulston.
Game two and what a start a neat finish by Oliver D to take the lead. This was turned into a two goal advantage when Oliver D smashed a blockbuster to score his second. You might see a similar pitch at the Rovers ground but not finishing like that! Half time arrived with great excitement with the match scores level. I’m sure I heard the manager at half time offering free ten pin bowling for all the kids and a free bar all evening for the adults if we could get an overall victory!! Unfortunately despite tremendous effort in the second half we ran out of a bit of steam and conceded two goals with the match still finishing a very creditable 2-2. Man of the match Oliver D a great performance and two fine goals.
Over both games this was probably the best performance of the season so far against a very strong side. Well played everyone.
